Mixed conditions
When balance becomes critical
Hardpack makes priorities visible.
But most ski days do not stay that simple.
As the day progresses, snow changes. Groomed pistes soften. Tracks form. The surface becomes more uneven.
A ski that feels precise in the morning suddenly has to deal with changing conditions.
This is where balance becomes critical.
The challenge is no longer pure edge grip – but how well a ski can adapt as conditions evolve.
Piste orientation throughout the day
Most ski days include more than one type of snow. The overview below shows how different models typically fit different conditions as the day unfolds.
| Condition | Recommended Model |
|---|---|
| Firm morning piste | SELECT 6X |
| Changing piste conditions | NOW 7 |
| Soft or uneven snow | NOW 8 |

Why balance matters more
As the surface becomes softer or more uneven, the interaction between ski and snow changes.
Edge grip still matters. At the same time, it becomes crucial how evenly the ski absorbs and transfers pressure.
A ski that is too aggressive becomes demanding. A ski that is too soft loses precision.
Skis that work in these conditions combine stability with adaptability.
SELECT 6X – stability through transition
The 6X remains controllable even as conditions begin to change.
Its balanced geometry keeps it precise on firmer sections while still offering enough stability as the surface softens.
For many skiers, this balance reflects what a typical ski day actually demands.
The 6X is available both as the SELECT version of the upcoming season and as the NOW version of the current season.
NOW 7 – when the usable range expands
The 7 expands the usable range significantly.
With slightly more width, it offers additional stability when the snow becomes uneven or tracks begin to build up.
Precision remains – while the ski becomes more accessible as conditions evolve.
NOW 8 – moving toward softer snow
The 8 shifts the balance further toward adaptability.
With more surface area, it offers additional support in softer or less defined snow.
It reduces the need for perfect technique without losing control.
SELECT, NOW or CUSTOM?
The model defines the character of the ski. The line determines how You get that model.
SELECT represents the upcoming season version of our models. These skis include small refinements and offer three flex options per length.
NOW offers the same models from the current season – with identical core construction and also three flex options per length. The difference lies mainly in the season version and a corresponding price advantage.
CUSTOM uses the same model foundation and adapts flex distribution, torsion, damping and setup individually for You through our ORIGO configurator.
- If You want the newest version, choose SELECT.
- If You prefer the same ski from the current season – with a price advantage – choose NOW.
- If the ski should be perfectly adapted to You, configure a CUSTOM ski.
The decisive point
Changing conditions make priorities visible. Not because they become more complex. But because they force You to weigh what matters most.
Stability? Adaptability? Precision?
A ski can cover a lot. But not everything at once. And that is exactly where the real decision begins.
In the next article, we look at conditions where priorities shift completely.
