Find out more about the various models and additional ski types below.

Slalom skis

Slalom skis, often also labeled as slalom carvers or just carving skis, are made for quick and short, precise turns on the racecourse, groomed runs and hard-pack snow. They are stiffer and narrower than other types of skis. In terms of ski length, they are rather short compared to the body height, because shorter skis face less snow resistance and are easier to turn.

MY CUSTOM SLALOM

Your ORIGINAL+ slalom ski is called mod.6S. It’s a sporty, dynamic slalom carver with a racy waist width of 66 mm. You’ll notice its racing roots best on a freshly prepared slope – our ski developer Franz, who built slalom skis for Olympic champions and world cup winners, took care of that.

Like all ORIGINAL+ skis our mod.6S will be customized for you: with a custom wood core made from ash that’s adapted to your skiing style; with an individually layered construction with glass fiber and carbon laminates matching your skiing technique; plus individual damping properties that will work perfectly with your speed; and with an individual tuning according to your preferred skiing region. Add to that a World Cup base and titanal laminates and you’ve got a slalom ski just like the pros.

GS skis

Giant slalom skis (short: GS skis), often referred to race carvers or just race skis, are made for long radius turns on freshly prepared runs or race courses. They’re at home on hard-pack snow. Classic GS skis are stiffer and narrower than other types of skis and feature less sidecut. They are considerably longer than slalom skis and always exceed the skier’s body height, making them stable and chatter-free but at the same time harder to turn.

MY CUSTOM GIANT SLALOM

Your ORIGINAL+ giant slalom ski is called mod.6G. It’s a sporty, stable slalom race carver with a racy waist width of 68 mm. You’ll notice its racing roots best on a freshly prepared slope – our ski developer Franz, who built skis for Olympic champions and world cup winners, took care of that.

Like all ORIGINAL+ skis our mod.6G will be customized for you: with a custom wood core made from ash that’s adapted to your skiing style; with an individually layered construction with glass fiber and carbon laminates matching your skiing technique; plus individual damping properties that will work perfectly with your speed; and with an individual tuning according to your preferred skiing region. Add to that a World Cup base and titanal laminates and you’ve got a giant slalom ski just like the pros.

Cross carvers

Cross Carvers

Cross carvers offer the best of both worlds: thanks to their multi radius sidecutthey are slalom and giant slalom ski in one – ideal for both short, agile as well as long, wide turns on piste. They are built like race skis, stiffand relatively narrow. The length recommendation for cross carvers is slightly shorter than that of classic GS skis.

MY CUSTOM CROSS

Your ORIGINAL+ cross carver is called mod.6X. It’s a very sporty and versatile piste ski with a racy waist width of 69 mm. What makes this model special is the multi radius sidecut, halfway between giant slalom and slalom. You’ll notice its racing roots best on a freshly prepared slope – our ski developer Franz, who built skis for Olympic champions and world cup winners, took care of that.

Like all ORIGINAL+ skis our mod.6X will be customized for you: with a custom wood core made from ash that’s adapted to your skiing style; with an individually layered construction with glass fiber and carbon laminates matching your skiing technique; plus individual damping properties that will work perfectly with your speed; and with an individual tuning according to your preferred skiing region. Add to that a World Cup base and titanal laminates and you’ve got a cross carver just like the pros.

Piste skis

Piste skis, often referred to as groomer skis, frontside skis or just carving skis, are made for on-piste skiing. If you love the feeling of carving turns on the groomers, but don’t favor true-bred racing skis, this is what you’re looking for. Piste skis are great for both short and long turns. Compared to slalom skis they’re slightly longer in relation to your body height; the ideal ski length depends on your skiing style and skills.

MY CUSTOM PISTE

Mod.7 is the name of your award-winning ORIGINAL+ piste ski. Its sporty 77 mm waist width makes it the perfect frontside companion for every day of the season: from precise early morning carving, to midday ventures through cut up crud, to mashing moguls at last chair. All mountain skis

All mountain skis feel at home in any terrain – from groomed to off-piste runs. They are generally wider than pure piste skis, particularly under foot, and are designed to handle just about any condition the mountain will throw at you – ice, powder, crud and everything in between. The ideal length of your all mountain skis depends on your skiing style, your preferences and skill set.

MY CUSTOM ALL MOUNTAIN

At ORIGINAL+ your all mountain ski is called mod.8: it offers a unique blend of sportiness, race-bred piste performance and all-terrain capability. This model comes with a well-balanced 88 mm waist width that makes it particularly versatile. Freeride skis

Freeride ski, often referred to as powder skis, are right at home where the trail ends: in the backcountry and in powder. They’re designed to be used primarily off piste but they perform adequately on piste too. They tend to be considerably wider and longer than all mountain skis, increasing the surface to aid floatation in powder and stability at higher speeds or when skiing crud.

MY CUSTOM FREERIDE

This is your ORIGINAL+ freeride ski: mod.9. Featuring a 99 mm waist it’s a super versatile ski, keeping the balance between the agility needed in variable conditions, and the right floatation when things get deep. It playfully masters every terrain and every route. Utilizing the finest materials currently available in ski construction it keeps the weight down – a clear advantage for shorter boot packs.

Like all ORIGINAL+ skis our mod.9 will be customized for you: with a custom wood core made from poplar or balsa that’s adapted to your skiing style; with an individually layered construction with fiber glass and carbon laminates matching your skiing technique; plus individual damping properties that will work perfectly with your speed; and with an individual tuning according to your preferred skiing region. Add to that a World Cup base and titanal laminates and your buddy is ready to take you on that next powder mission.

Backcountry skis / touring skis

Touring skis, often referred to as backcountry skis, are made to perform both uphill and downhill. The variety of different models is huge since the right choice of ski depends on your focus: the ascent, the descent or both. Either way, most touring skis feature constructions that make them considerably lighter than alpine skis, for effortless skinning.

Ascent oriented and classic touring skis are shorter than downhill oriented models, in order to keep the weight down and make handling as easy as possible.

MY CUSTOM BACKCOUNTRY

At ORIGINAL+ you have the choice of two backcountry models , both with a relatively low weight thanks to its construction.

Firstly, our mod.8T, a classic touring ski with an 85 mm waist, delivers both uphill and downhill. It’s made for ski tourers tackling the whole mountain and thus looking for equipment with the best combination of lightness, comfort and functionality.

Secondly, our mod.9T, a modern freeride ski with a 95 mm waist targeting freeride tourers and backcountry skiers with one clear mission: chasing fresh and untracked snow. This ski will take you uphill with ease while showing its full strength on the way down with sensational downhill power.

Like all ORIGINAL+ skis both models will be customized for you: with a custom wood core made from poplar or balsa that’s adapted to your skiing style; with an individually layered construction with fiber glass and carbon laminates matching your skiing technique; plus individual damping properties that will work perfectly with your speed; and with an individual tuning according to your preferred skiing region. Welcome to the world of customized touring.

The new backcountry models’ sales launch is scheduled for spring 2020 – with a Kickstarter Crowdfunding campaign.

Freestyle skis / twintip skis

Freestyle skis, also known as twintip skis or park skis, are at home in park & pipe: they can be skied both regular and switch. As the name twintip suggests, this type of ski comes with a turned-up tip and tail for catch-free take-offs and confident landings – forward or backwards.

FIS skis

FIS skis are race skis for professional, semiprofessional and next generation ski racers. They come as downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom skis. In terms of construction and stiffness they differ considerably from other types of skis. FIS skis are mainly used in the ski world cup where it’s common to tinker as long as it takes until the ski fits the skier perfectly – just like in the Formula 1.

At ORIGINAL+ we currently do not offer FIS skis; our mod.6S, however, conforms to the FIS rules in terms of geometry and we are capable of building skis according to World Cup race standards.

What’s more important, though: our entire range is all about “functional customizing”, i.e. optimizing your skis for your individual needs. In other words: skis built according to professional race standards – “the Formula 1 of wintersports“ – are now available to any ambitious recreational skier, at an unbeatable value for money. In our patented manufacturing process encompassing more than 100 single steps, we craft skis at the very highest level.

Carving Ski

Nowadays, basically any ski on the market is a carving ski – i.e. a ski with an hourglass shape making it easy to carve precise turns on the edge. Here are some common names for different types of carving skis:

  • Race Carver: A sporty giant slalom ski – or just GS ski or race ski – with a relatively straight sidecut. Made for speedy longer turns on hard pack snow and freshly groomed pistes.
  • Slalom Carver: An agile, lively slalom ski – or just race ski – with a pronounced sidecut for quick, short turns and carving on firm snow and freshly groomed pistes.
  • Cross Carver: A very sporty piste ski with racing roots and a multi radius sidecut, halfway between giant slalom and slalom. Ideal for both short and long turns on freshly groomed pistes.
  • Sport Carver: A sporty piste ski with a great bandwidth – for dynamic short or medium turns in all conditions on piste.
  • Allround Carver, often referred to as Easy Carver: A forgiving ski for beginners and for skiers seeking a comfortable ride.
